Activist
& comic book creator (Alonzo Washington) is fighting to make sure that
the National Amber Alert protects all children. His advocacy has
brought national attention a number of African American children who
are normally forgotten. The following is a E-mail that he sent to
Congresswoman Gwen Moore regarding this matter. Alonzo has been
conducting national media interviews regarding this issue. He is
also the national spokesperson for Operation L.A.P. (www.operation-lap.org).
The organization locates missing children. Alonzo's comic book company

Greetings
Congresswoman Moore:
I am happy to
see you are in support of the National Amber Alert. I remember receiving
your campaign literature about the National Amber Alert and keeping
kid's safe. The big problem was that you featured no African American
kids or any children of color featured in the advertisement. The
national media has ignored the plight of missing African American
children. Therefore, I started a campaign called: America's Forgotten
Children. I feature missing African American children on my comic
books, trading cards and website (www.omega7.com). This project
has helped many Black kid's gain national media attention that they
never would have received. I am also the national spokesperson for
Operation L.A.P. Foundation, Inc. & the Wisconsin Center for
Missing Children (www.wcmckids.org). The group relocates missing
children. I am appealing to you once again to add some provisions
to the National Amber Alert to make sure that children of color
and low income children are not discriminated against. The Amber
Alert relies on the media and the media is bias on who they give
national attention too. The Democratic Party receives ninety percent
of the African American vote. Your party should strive to protect
Black children as equally as Whites. We are all Americans. I also
hope that some of the funds that will be allotted to child safety
organizations finds it's way to grassroots organizations like mine
that are actually making a difference and reaching people. The Omega7
Community Service Program has provided free fingerprinting & photo
I.D. kits to over 3,000 children of all races. Moreover, my activism
around the Brian Edgar child abuse case forced citizens & law makers
to address the problems within SRS and to try prevent child abuse.
I have been conducting a number of local and national media regarding
this matter. I hope you consider my suggestion. I would love to
have your support in addressing the disparity of media coverage
between Black & White missing children.
Best Regards,
Alonzo
